Am I the only one who backs up data on usb thumbdrives?  Is this a safe practice?

I also backup some of my data on thumbdrives because it is cheaper than burning smaller things to CDs or DVDs.  I really don't know how safe this is though, but it's been working for me for about a year.

I really don't use thumbdrives to permanently back up important data.  I burn important things to CDs or DVDs.  However, I do use thumbdrives to transfer data between machines.

I have a couple of large thumb drives that I use for backups.  They save me money from not having to buy blank disks!
