Thanks for the comments guys.  I think I'm closing in on fixing this.  I did a POST test and for the first time my computer actually booted up and displayed the POST menu and everything.  Not sure whats causing the problem yet, but we'll see what happens when the hard drive is reconnected.  I don't think the power supply is the issue, its a 700 watt (realistically i think 550-600w) Rocketfish, and I don't remember rail specs, but i researched it at the time and found that it was nothing incredible, but more than sufficient.  Thanks for the comments, wish me luck.

sounds like it could be a power supply problem

Hi NeoAbel,

If you unplug the cold cathode tubes, does the computer still turn on normally? How is the voltage on your mobo's rails; are they within range? Maybe your power supply is not putting out enough voltage or amps.

Agreed.  If you're willing to spend money, I'd go with Kaspersky Anti-Virus (59.99) or Internet Security (79.99).  Steer clear of Norton, you are paying for the name.

I built this desktop six months ago, and it has been running perfect until last week.  I installed some cold cathode tubes (which work) and when i went to power the PC back on, nothing came on the screen.

-When I press power, the power supply kicks on and powers everything it is connected to (Optical drive, motherboard, GPU, HDD, etc.)
-The lights on the motherboard come on, and devices such as system fans that are only connected to the motherboard work fine.
-This made me thing graphics card, but there are two problems with that
1)The graphics card powers on just like all the other hardware when i press power.
2)Even though the PC powers on, The front LED's for power and HDD use DO NOT light up like usual, leading me to believe it is still a motherboard issue.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions are welcome.  I'm stuck here! Also, for my display I am using a SDTV, connected by S-video on the GPU.

hi pcgeek,

Yes, antivirus software and firewall software both serve very different functions. Anti-virus software is used for detecting and removing malware such as viruses, trojans, spyware, etc. On the other hand, firewalls are used to prevent unauthorized access to your computer. They basically block open ports and block some programs from accessing the Internet to make it harder for hackers to connect to your computer.

There are some good free software firewalls that you can download:

Comodo

ZoneAlarm
